WHY LB? WHY THE OCTOTHORPE?
The Octothorpe draws its name from the first known version of the lb (pound) symbol. Though differing accounts circulate around the origin of the name Octothorpe, the history of this peculiar symbol is one steeped in evolution, and this concept is a cornerstone of our product development at Pound. Originally used to designate a measure of weight, lb comes from the Latin phrase "libra pond," or "pound in weight." The addition of a single hatch over the top of lb was later added to signify the letters' use as a symbol. As scribes repeatedly scrawled the symbol, a flurry of cursive lines began to morph into what we know today as # (aka pound, aka number sign, aka hashtag). Like our namesake, Pound will evolve with the sport of disc golf in order to push the development of our products so that they will survive the test of time.
